I gotta chime in here in the interest of opening many people's eyes to the possibilities offered on lakes (including reservoirs).
"Lake sailing", given good wind and fetch, can be whatever one makes of it. New Mexico's better lakes often see waist-to-chest-high swell, with chest-to-head high on the really good days. I've sailed 6 feet, and seen 8 feet while in a Coast Guard or State Park (they have both) boat. The lakes between the eastern Columbia River dams have no perceptible current, but they often see serious swell. Really big lakes, of course, see MUCH larger swell.
In mere thigh-high swell, many 90-110 liter boards can slash and jump very impressively. That's up to the rider first, then the equipment, and lastly to the venue. Unless planing back home in the evening is top priority, much smaller boards (e.g., 65 liters for a 180-pounder) can be a blast in countless lakes. My 95L Naish Wave Trifin slashes insanely, flies at will, and points very high and low with a 6.2, and even more so (because the swell is bigger) with a 4.2.

Exactly....3 down here delam, and one orange/blue Futura.
Monday/Friday boards, or exposed to heat, pressure, or ridden hard.
I always wear booties here.
White lasts better, but only just a bit.

Lopez Lake on the central coast can blow 30 plus at times. The waves get calf high. That said people come from the bay area and San Deigo to sail the pond.
It's an old man spot but it's still fun.

| My first Tabou delamination was 2010 rocket 115 all white. Same spot as all the rest. Took it to Eva the board lady for a proper repair. That board is still in use with no farther issues. Eva did a perfect repair and made that board better than new. My long-time windsurfing buddy still uses that board as his go to most days at the lake. And he is difficult to keep up with.

Lopez is at 100% full right now. Should be great sailing all year.
Come up in the summer when it is hot inland and cool on the coast.
This time of year you can windsurf just about 5 days a week. For me,170 lbs. Its 5.5 on a 115 board. Some 4.7 on a 95 board or 6.5 on the 115. If you foil you can get enough wind sometime in the day to have fun every day. Once in a while, it gets too hot at the lake and the wind goes away for a day or two. Come by and say hi to the boys and gals at the pound.
