I was up at San Luis Forebay about a month ago and it was almost too weedy to sail. I imagine it will be pretty thick by now. You might want to check out the main Reservoir instead. Gear rental is probably going to be ASD on the peninsula near Coyote Point. |

San Luis main reservoir is an advanced only spot. The winds can be strong and come up quickly with big chop. The rangers only allow you to sail if you have safety equip and sail with a buddy.
Also if you get blown into the large dam, I hear there are rattlesnakes in the rocks. I dont advise sailing there if you are intermediate. Goto Coyote Pt instead (where ASD rents equip right on the water). Candlestick is good for flat water and good wind too. Both are closer to central San Jose anyway, plus youll be more likely to find wind at Coyote or Stick (unless there is lots of fog). |
