I am looking to upsize to at least a 7.5m sail to sail on my Techno E-Large (135 L). Is this a good sail for just blasting about and early planing?

I sail on the north shore of Lake Erie in fairly gusty conditions. Average windspeed is probably around 14-17 mph.

I weigh 170 lbs and am an intermediate level sailor.

Thanks, Jay

Hey,
I dont know about the Gaastra Nitro, but I have a bic techno and I bought a couple of bic sails(7.8 and 8.Cool when Water-Play in Florida was having a sale a year or two ago-and I can say that the techno really excels in the 6.5 to 9.0 range. A 7.5 on a techno in 15 mph winds sounds just about perfect. Have fun.

In a word: no.
The race sails are ment for sailing very overpowered in races so they do not have the low end power for early planing. Plus theyre a hassle to rig and they have thinner less-durable monofilm. Stick to freeride sails.

If you want to stick with a Gaastra, the GTX is a great blast around sail. Another great option is the Sailworks Retro. Both can be tuned for a wide range of conditions. The Techno is a fun, easy board to sail and can easily carry a 8.5, if you ever decide to go that big. Have big fun.....Leon
