OK group mind! What's the lowdown on W/S in the Bishop /Mammoth area this time of year. It's been a sucky ski season and I need to go back to Mammoth one more time to get my skis out of the shop, and I've heard of ponds off Hiway 395 that smoke this time of year. Ski in the AM and sail in the PM..sweet! Thanks, Bull |

I did it 2 years ago on Memorial weekend on Crowley lake. It was pretty windy, there were also 2 kiters on the water. |

Wind was blowing directly from Mammoth so I launched on Hwy side. It is not very easy, there is no shallow and very rocky entry. |

I don't know much about weather in summer there, but I think there is windy most of the time, specially at the valley. |

I saw some guys (3 to be precise) sailing on Grant Lake several years ago. I think they were locals. They had launched near the dam. Maybe Grant Lake is more user-freindly. Good luck! |

Have you heard of Klondike Lake? It always seems really windy when we stop there. |

I did this 20+ years ago(!). Memorial Day weekend ~1985. Skied Mammoth in the AM. Then Windsurfed (w/ an original Windsurfer) at the east end of June Lake in the PM. I remember decent winds were fine for that big board. The water was cold, of course. Still doing both. As a matter of fact, it is going to be an epic 20-30 kt ebb this afternoon at 3rd Ave. |

I haven't visited Klondike Lake, but I did see someone's rig on the beach at June Lake once. June has a nice beach and recreation/parking area so presumably if it's windy June is a good spot.
Plan B would be to ski Mammoth and sail at Isabella on the way back. Not possible in the same day, but I've done this on Memorial week end before on consecutive days. |
