I saw the same thing on Sun. not that there was any wind. The entire 3' of beach that was there is gone due to errosion. Great place to sail though. |

I don't think there is a lot of enthusiasm (or money) for the project of restoring the launch. Occasionally you see a sailor or two who launched from the Jungle, Glass Beach or by the Three Mile Slough bridge. These are desperate, north wind riders looking for a winter fix. Funny thing, now that this very visible launch is closed, most non-sailing Rio Vistans seem to think that no one windsurfs anymore. |

If these are "desperate" north wind winter sailors, What do you consider yourself watching Sherman blowing 30 gusting to 41 NNW and you're sitting home in front of your fire place toasting your butt cheeks?? |

Yea Dr Crabe,,,,,is there something wrong with being a "desperate north wind rider"????? Actually Windy Cove would get pretty crowded on those
north wind days in October.
It would seem that someone skilled with a bulldozer could fix the launch.
Any contractor guys out there? |

Man, you guys are brutal! I'm not saying there is anything wrong with being a desperate north wind rider needing a wind fix. I've been there myself. I've even tried Sherman on a winter north, now that's really desperate. What I was trying to say is the few sailors you see there now either swam out from by the bridge or made their way through "the Jungle," not the easiest thing to do, especially for an old guy like me. These guys certainly have my respect. I'd be happy to join them if we had a launch, once again, that would work for someone not so tough, like me. BTW, I have no fireplace and my cheeks are cold. Brrrr. |

Windy Cove is part of Brannan Island State Recreation Area. |

I'm surprised more people have not tried the bridge launch on north wind days. I've sailed it solo for my winter fix (bring a hood and gloves).
There is small beach area to launch from and the wind line usually starts about 10-20 yards from shore where the water is waist deep. Not much parking or rigging area but the sailing is better than Powerlines or Access. If its flooding and the wind dies you could end up going under the bridge around Brannon Island. |

Shitan and I tried "the Jungle" last year and it wasn't that bad. North of Windy Cove and the bridge there is a hole in the bushes that leads to a very small sandy beach with drift wood, perfect for launching. There is parking space on the side of the road in what looks like an abandoned and short roadside lane, room for 3 or 4 cars. Sailing is great there. No crowds. |
