I'm new to this sport.
I'm learning straps and harness.
I'm wondering if Nehalem Bay has enough wind for me to sail when it is blowing good at Manzanita?
Or are the waves small enough that I might try Manzanita?
Don

It's been a few years since Isailed there, but Nehalem Bay can be good. The water is fairly flat but the wind is gusty at the launch and offshore so as you work your out into the bay the wind gets stronger. So make sure you can sail upwind. The scenery is beautiful.

Mazanita Beach is another story. Strong longshore current and cross-on wind direction can make launching and getting enough speed up before you hit the first breaking waves tricky. If you make it past the breaking waves its very exhilerating sailing in rolling waves and strong wind. If you don't you'll swallow a lot of water and trash your gear.

I've only sailed there once, but I had really good luck launcher just by Wheeler at a low tide. It was way too windy for me at Manzanita so I had a great flat water session there, and didn't hafta worry about a windshadow, it's a bit of a drive to get around to it, but it's worth it.
