I have sailed here for 4 yrs now and besides a handfull of relatively cold days per year, when you want to wear a hood and booties, you can windsurf all year round in the bay area! I lived and windsurfed in the south of Sweden for 7 yrs before I moved here and I can tell you: That's cold! Wintertime sailing in 35F water and air temp or even less...

Here it's mild in winter-time. I know it's all personal, but anybody who says different has no idea what cold is. Yesterday we had a great 5.3-5.7 session at Waddell. The water temp was nice, the air temp was nice. Overhead to mast high waves. Brilliant.

On the south easterlies, try HMB inside the harbor at mav's cove! Can be super windy and lots of stoke with all the other true hardcore guys and girls! On the clearing-wind days try the regular bay spots. The coast can be pretty gnarly after a winter-storm: so be very aware. A 4/3 westuit is plenty, and a hood and booties wil get you thru the worst.

As the other said, you just have to time it good, but you will be rewarded!

BRING IT ON! I love winter sailing around here! Sure, you can get skunked, and you don't get to sail everyday (or even every week), but those rare sessions sure feel special when you get them, and the conditions can be downright awesome. I love Half Moon Bay in the winter... I wish I could sail that place like that in the summer!

Anyway, winter's not quite here yet. After getting skunked at Sherman on Saturday, we had a great sesh there on Sunday... sailed until dark!

Exactly! The Stick is reading 17 on average gusting 25, right now!!! That would be 5.3 for me, 5.0-4.7 for most others. Who said the season is over??? it never is! I can't make it today, maybe tomorrow....
