|
|
Hey all,
I'm a beginning sailor (on boards at least) and I have been doing my best to find wind with little to no swell to get into the game. The best I've been able to get is HMB with around 6-10 kts. Now tomorrow, I would love to head up and try out the southern wind, but I'm guessing the harbor is going to be packed and I don't want to step on any toes. Any beta to pass on so I don't get slapped? Particular spot for beginners? Sail size advice? Or should I just wait till Monday?
Cheers! |

I wouldn't worry too much as a beginner. There's plenty of room for sailing, but not much parking. I took a rank beginner there last February and he did great. As a beginner I would stay to the right side of the pier. There are fewer boats moored there, and the sandy beach is a good downwind safety net. As you get more adventurous, and you can confidently stay upwind, get well above the pier and then sail to the other side. If you find the wind overpowering (it seems it may be that way according to the forecast.) Stay on the right and work with it. You'll find a shallow spot for practicing waterstarts

wunderground's forecast for tomorrow is "Becoming breezy with south winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 35 mph." If you can survive that you won't be a beginner any more
Shoreline in Mountain View is a another safe, flat water place for winter storm sailing, usually good in the hours right after a storm has blown through.
Once the regular season starts again in the spring try Alameda or Candlestick for flat water on the Bay.
Cheers.

If anyone get this before tomorrow, I would like to get directions to the HMB location, is it near the Princeton Harbor? |
