Last Tuesday the harbor went off with gusts to close to 40. There were only four guys out and it was a bit much at times, but with a smaller sail it was comfortable in the 25 to 30 range. It blew from 11am until dark. After today it will probably shut down for a week or so. Mike |

You talking about Half Moon Bay? I opted out because it was raining so hard. However I wondered whether it was good or not. I'd be interested in any first-hand reports.

I was the first one out at 10:30 on a 5.2 and 94 liter board. I weigh 155. At noon I almost changed down to a smaller sail and board, but the wind backed off and I stayed out until 1:00. The graph is accurate. It was gusty with heavy rain at times and no rain at times. Typical HMB winter sailing.
You can moderate at least a full meter sail area depending where you sail. When it is blasting, I tuck into the jetty on the east side of the harbor. Screaming starboard tack reaches off the wind can be followed by hero jibes (tricks for freestyle kids) in front of kite beach. I wish I had a GPS unit as I would bet some fast times could be logged under these conditions. |
