West Meadow Beach Spring Kickoff 2008
It's the Windy Season on Long Island! A departing storm and approaching high pressure formed a tight gradient and powered W to NW winds in the 25-35 mph range, with the requisite gusts and lulls. A blow-out tide meant lower water levels, with loads of flatwater (for Mike Burns & other freestylers to play in) between sandbars and 2-4' waves on the outside. Big rollers up to 5-6' were found in the Northeast corner for big backside port tack riding and giant starboard air.
When taking breaks, I shot some video of the scene (unfortunately without a tripod, apologies for shakiness), and threw it together in iMovie yesterday while resting the aching muscles. Check it out on Youtube or larger, higher quality Quicktime:

Fantastic video! I like having the larger file instead of the usual grainy Youtube. A tripod would have made it just about as good as some of the videos that I buy. The only problem is that Quicktime doesn't have slow motion for studying the moves.
It looks like that spot is a windsurfers playground.

Thanks Scooper, I appreciate the nice comment. You can actually download the video file from the .Mac gallery, and run it in Quicktime Player. When you get to a move, pause playback and use the back/forward arrow keys to step through the move (or if you have Quicktime Pro you can set the playback speed to less than 1X in the AV Controls).
Joe- Mustang Steve was there on Friday, but where were you? How come you haven't sailed there in over a decade?
Thanks again guys,
Jeff

Mustang was out there friday? I thought I saw some land lubber uphauling his starboard GO. just kidding.
I actually moved out of Long Island in 97' and ended up here in Hampton new hamshire in 2001. IT is pretty ballsy here, colder, but tons of wind and all the goods. The people up here speak weird, and dont really have all of their teeth, but other than that there is a cool scene.
yup when I left it was the peak of the dimitri/ken show.
