The third draft of rules to govern watersports lessons and guide services on Maui is out for review and it's a LOT better. We are not out of the woods yet, but for the most part, it seems that the Kanaha windsurfing community has successfully conveyed the message that we don't need to be over regulated. WE ARE SO GRATEFUL TO EVERYONE THAT WROTE TO OUR LOCAL OFFICIALS IN SUPPORT OF WINDSURFING AT KANAHA!!!! Mahalo nui loa! Windsurfers rock!! See you on the water! Aloha, Patti and Alan Cadiz

Good news comes in twos!

Great work, Patti, Alan, and everyone else, too.

I really don't want to start a political fight, but it seems to be an affliction of Libs that they propose 'loopy' stuff that will never become law, as a feather in their hat! See this article about MY OWN COUSIN in San Jose proposing an onerous beer tax-knowing it would never pass; http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_8888028?source=rss I am very suppotive of Alan, a great guy for our sport! we were only too happy to help.

It may be too early to celebrate the "New Rules", because they are still only a draft of proposed rules and they have actually changed for the worse even in the last week.
We have been fighting hard for better rules for the last three months solid. (the process has spanned at least Six years altogether) And while some people were too busy to help, or would not contribute to our defense fund, other people did most of the work. The fact is we still need public support, because the draft rules will be discussed at a public hearing, where any detractors may come forward. We still need public support, and no-one should become complacent, especially Patti and Alan. There are still some hidden pitfalls in the proposed rules that will negatively affect any kitesurf schools, and surfing schools, and there are still many beaches being lost to windsurfing, kiteboarding and surfing. Some schools will be affected much more than others.
So Alan & Patti should not celebrate quite yet, while there are many other people still working very hard (& spending their money) to keep our access open, and trying to protect our industry.
