|
|
I would like to thank everyone involved in my
rescue on Sunday at Dougs. I went for a jump
and my board and rig separated. The board went
east because of the wind and the rig went west
with the current. I immediately went after the
board, however with the current so strong I could
not catch up with it. Nicklaus from Seattle towed
my sorry self back to the Washington side. It took
a long time and he was just great about it. Also
Russ located my board on the Oregon side and Chris
retrived it. Also I would like to thank Skip from
Northwave who saved my rig. He ended up at Rowena.
It is really great to know how many people will help
you when you ask. I was lucky to be wearing my surf
suit because the water is still very cold. Thanks
again for everyone's help.

Hey Trudy,
We're all very glad you and your gear made it back OK. Curious as to what caused the board / rig disconnect. Broken universal? If so what kind of universal. Not fully connected? Other equipement failure?
I have two chinook standard rubber universals with double screw plates on my boards that have never ever failed. Been thinking about replacing the universals on the principal that they're a few years old, though they still seem solid.
Thanks for any info.

I would replace the tendons in the universal asap. Mine broke while sailing a mile out, my friends came to my rescue. Somewhere I heard those universals are supposed to last for about 200 hours, I put on over 130 days of sailing per year so I'm replacing them every season, maybe I should replace them more frequently. I don't want to take more chances. |
