I'm soon going to be buying a whole new rig and I need to know what is the best thing to buy. I am fairly new at windboarding and want something fast on the lake but can ride on the coast. I weight 190lbs, have a $1,200 budget and have winds from 12 up to 25. So what board would be best?

Thanks,
Tanner

Check out the Exocet Cross 102 board. Plenty of float, but hides its volume well in chop. A good cross-over shape.

if you are new to windsurfing i would look at the Starboard GO series. these boards have enough range to get you cruising around in light winds very comfortably and in higher winds hooked in to your harness and back in the footstraps carving jibes.

STOP, Buy a quiver of used boards instead. They don't have to be crappy to be cheap. You will get more performance by diversity and range and you wont hesitate to Shred the Shit out of them. I have not been sailing that long either, but have surfed all my life. And with surfboards some years and shapes are preffered over some modern designs, but understanding how shapes work and compare will be a big plus. your boards gonna look used after one season anyway.

I have seen the look of people after they ding the nose on the trip to the launch, minor nicks are cosmetic and so let somebody else pay for the depreciaton and the profit.

Windboarding??? OUCH! U a kiter?

If you did mean windboarding, then why don't you go to Lowe's and pick up some lumber. Prolly costs a lot less than a WINDSURF board. Wink

Hi Tanner,

Where exactly will you be sailing? What is your skill current skill level? It's a pretty big task to ask your quiver to be good on a lake and the coast since the two are typically very different skills and going to the coast typically means knowing how to be skilled enough to ride in the waves.

Give us a little background and I'm sure a bunch of us will have lots of good suggestions for you.

Cheers,
-Rebecca
