I kite at 3rd , Ave. and while packing today Wed 8th around sunset, a cop pulled in and ask if anybody saw any windsurfers that lost their equipment out on the water. He said they found two (!) complete sail-board floating by themselves out in the channel. They were preparing to send a helicopter up to look for the presumed windsurfers that came with the gear.

While this doesn't sound too good, I should add that at times it was nuking today on the outside, must have been pulsing up and down all the way into the 30s, and there was big chop too in the channel. I assume Foster City Police / USGS is pursuing this so if you know anything / have missing buddies (no bad jokes please), do let them know.

My Coast Guard contact says the items recovered were 2 kites and 2 kite boards. There is often confusion between windsurf and kitesurf gear among those who don't use it. Searches by air and boat did not turn anyone up and the general opinion was that they were able to run good searches that had a good probability of turning someone up if they were out there. If you think it could ever be you, mark your gear with your phone number and invest $80 on a good strobe (firefly) or $16 on a submersible flashlight (pelican) to signal with.

That explains the coasties that I saw on the outside at Coyote today, they were definitely making the rounds. Always good to know they're keeping an eye on us and it was definitely howling out there today!

A few days ago some windsurfers went down to zeros to sail. We used to sail there, but kiters took it over. The guys rigged up and just before getting into the water a lifeguard drove down and told him he couldn't sail there.

He was told that wavesailing there wasn't permited and that they had put a buoy for the kiters up north. The kiters had pissed of enough surfers that the spot was closed to all now.

This could happen to all of us if we don't find a way to separate the two sports in the rescuers eyes! Kites on the whole have created more rescues per man, more injuries per man, and more pissed off civilians per man.

Two sailors were hit 3 times by kiters on tuesday and once on monday at our local spot. (not me) I have been hit 5 times in the last year.

It must be time to start emailing the state parks office again. Here is the address; info@parks.ca.gov

I sent an email to them today advising them of the hazzards of allowing kite surfing in the slot.
