Hey y'all Hatteras experts - a little advice please.

All the water in the sound at Avon near Ocean Air Sports has blown away in this ENE wind today. Sad

How long will it be gone?
Where do we windsurf when it is like this?

Any other suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks!

Hey Tom,

Your best bet is the sound side at the parking lot at Izzy's Inlet. Drive south on RT12 and the parking lot is located just before entering Hatteras Village. Wind will be sideshore there.

As long as this ENE wind continues, the water will be gone, especially down in Avon where the wind is very strong today.

Hey, hopefully you got out there today! A bunch of us sailed at the Hole, and then found a butter flat stretch at Kite Point to do some speed runs. There's nothing quite like holding on to a 4.2 in 45 mph gusts!

Anyway, you have a very valid question- The water will come back, VERY QUICKLY, when the wind switches through North to NW. According to iWindsurf, that'll happen sometime tomorrow morning. Beware of soundside flooding, clean up all the junk under the house, and move the car to higher ground. Hopefully it won't be an issue, but this is the perfect setup for some semi-severe flooding!! Shocked

Whoa Andy !! - you are so right.

The water came back with a vengeance!
Moved the car to Post Office after wading down flooded Rte 12.

Thanks for the heads up on the flooding soundside.

Some guys were ripping it up this afternoon on 3 .5 - 4.0 near Ocean Air.

A couple of us launched at Brigand's Bay (East of Frisco Woods, West of Soundside Restaurant). It was plenty deep and offered clear air from the east. Worth a visit next time it gets too shallow.
