I live in Truckee and sail LAke Tahoe all of the time. Currently it's about 45 degrees, and the wind has not filled in down to the Lake levels. Lot of west in it too. If it is too west the North side launches are holey (actually the wind is always holey). Kings beach is great if there's a lot of south and gets a huge swell. Sand Harbor better on west wind. You're sailing in a postcard worthy spot too! Donner is better on a west wind. I hung it up for the year as the air and water are pretty darn cold. Frontal winds in sept and october are great though, and the summer thermals offer consistent wind in the 6.0 range. If you are dead-set on sailing this weekend get out your tiny gear and head down to Washoe Lake. It's really supposed to howl there. |

Washoe could hit 35 mph with gusts into the 50's-seriously. But the water will be about 40 degrees with recent temps running 55/22. Should have a serious dry suit with gloves and expect it to be brutal. I also believe in the 100 degree rule and this won't even be close... |

From my experience windsurfing Lake Tahoe (since 2001, although I was a beginner back than), the best launch is Lake Forest Beach. Near the coast guard station. Kings Beach can often be too light, however, if the entire lake is nuking, it will work.
If you plan on sailing this weekend, I hope you have a 7mm wetsuit, hood, booties, gloves, and a PFD could also come in handy. |

Yeah and rig way bigger than you think it is, because the air is very thin up there. You might enjoy the jaccuzzi more. |
