Well Poinster, I was going to say yes... My main point has been, you can't call Obama racial slurs and then say you're down with polite dialogue. I have also been called many names by Isobars and mrgybe, and respond in kind--or raise the ante.

It is fine to disagree with anyone, including Obama, by stating "I think (such and such a policy is a mistake) because.... It is called a thesis statement and my fourth graders are learning it. I would welcome such on the forum.

Cheney isn't Darth Vader--just an un-indicted felon. Laughing

B&b is offended that Mac calls him an ignorant racist bigot.
I agree with BB. He should not have to put up that if it isn't true.
BB decides to say a bigoted racial epithet any time Mac accuses him of being a racist in order to prove he is really a reasonable polite conservative.

Yes K.C., but the relevant point to me is intent. Did B.B. intend it as a racist remark, or as a comical name, which tickled his fancy? B.B., like many I know, may just be using words in a way which he doesn't see as wrong; just faintly amusing.

One of the sad aspects of todays extreme political correctness is that there is a rampant 'take offence industry' and boy, are THEY viscious!

An obvious case from over here. A primary school youngster asked an innocent question of a coloured (brown) boy in the school playground, 'Are you from Africa?'

Clearly I would say, (after reading of his 'interrogation') there was no intent to demean or insult, yet a complaint had been made, and heavy handed 'official' action was taken against him, including his name being placed on a 'racial hate register.'

I'm entitled to ask. a) whatever is happening to common sense? and b) who are the REAL haters when an inquisitive 8 year old just asks an innocent question, and is treated as a criminal?

I guess I wasn't clear when I cited statements about Cheney, Fluke, Obama, etc. I wasn't commenting on the truth of those assertions, but rather using them as examples of the kind of personal attacks that we would suspend for a week. So we can talk about energy policy without calling oil executive evil, contraceptive coverage without calling Fluke a slut, border security without calling Obama a liar.

We can also be accountable for our own statements, and not use another poster's perceived racist comment or personal slight as license to engage in name-calling.

Those who are willing to abandon self-righteousness for a week could try setting a good example of civility, rather than engaging in censure.

What say? Just a week, until the 29th, then a return to macho smackdown, if that's what you want.

When I use a white supremacist racial slur by mistake I say sorry and make a note of it.
It is a mistake. I do not threaten to repeat it over and over.
That is not a mistake , it is using my new bigoted expression in full knowledge of its meaning.
BB recently said he wanted ALL Muslims to kill each other.
He hates them.
Was that an error in using the wrong word.?
