Any stories from windsurfing today? Seal Beach was blowing about 30+. I planned on sailing on the ocean side at Belmont, but it was extremely windy, so I sailed inside the harbor w/ Chris (www.clewfirst.org), overpowered, on a borrowed 4.7 sail and a 111L board.

Im guessing it was that board that was making you feel overpowerd? 4.7 with a 111L board is an odd combination, even if you are a big guy. Try a smaller board for those conditions.

Most likely the wind was overpowering, the other sailor I was with was using a 5.2 and a 90-100L board and was completely overpowered as well. It was blowing probably about 30 knots in the harbor. (On and Off)

It does sound like pretty big boards for that much wind, even at flat water locations. Its really a matter of personal preference but it is so tiring being on big boards in high winds and rough water. scooper

Our boy Jamie down in Dago was the only guy with a small enough board of the windsurfers here. He sailed a 70 liter board with a 4.1 sail. And was the hero out on the water in the 40 mph gusts. Everybody else had to suck it up with our 100 liter boards. Too much board = bouncy tail walking. Greg.

its only my first season of serious windsurfing (even though Ive been doing it in lakes w/ longboards since 2001) so dont really know much about tuning the rig. Ill have to try out a smaller board some day.

Can anyone tell me what type of wetsuit you would need to sail the winters in S. Cali? 3/2 or 4/3? what about spring and summer?

I get along quite well in LA with a 5/3 in the winter months, and in the summer I use a 3/3 convertible (short sleeves). A 3/3 shorty would probably be just fine in the summer too, I just wanted the extra protection for my legs. I used to use a half-mil shorty in the summer, and I found that to be just too chilly. Hope that helps! Surprised
