|
|
Hi All,
I think I'm to the point to where I'm ready to start trying some arial freestyle moves. I'm pretty good with the light wind freestyle stuff (clew first stuff, heli tacks, sail 360's....). So I think I'm ready to start taking it to the air. On planing days, back and forth and a few chop hops is fun, but I would like a whole new challenge.
What's a good move to start with? I was thinking Vulcan. Loops don't interest me at this point, skippers seem like they would be a huge challenge in the chop we get here.....
I want to get into more freestyle stuff, but just don't know where to go from here.
Suggestions? |

Can you do a jump jibe yet? It is basically the first and easiest aerial where you pop the fin and spin the board. The progression into aerial jibes goes like this:
1. Pivot jibe
light-wind out of straps, sink the tail, finish turn clew-first, flip sail
2. Slam jibe
planing in or out of the straps, "wheelie" into a sudden change of direction, switch feet on the board, finish turn clew-first, flip sail
3. Fall-off jibe
mini chop-hop to clear the fin, feet come out of straps while you spin the board 180, butt lands in water and you clew-first waterstart back the other direction
4. Jump jibe (a.k.a. AERIAL jibe)
fall-off jibe without falling off: both feet land on the board
5. Willy Skipper
pop the fin, spin the board, feet come out of straps and land facing the same direction, the rig stays put, skate fin-first a bit, step to other side of rig and sail back the other way
6. Vulcan (a.k.a. AIR jibe)
pop the fin, spin the board, feet STAY in the straps, the rig stays put as the hands and body go around it, you land switch stance still in the straps going backwards fin-first, sheet in the sail to stop motion and sail back the other way.
It has been estimated that it takes around 400 attempts to nail a Vulcan.

Good, I only have to keep trying for another 356 attempts that's what I've heard too. I'll be the happiest guy around when I nail my first one. |
