for the first timers like me here is the ridesharing procedure:

1. Some cars (return group) are dropped at finish and people with gear are loaded into other cars (forward group). Forward group people might want to leave some clothes to change to at this point.
2. Forward group drives everybody to the start point
3. Everybody sails downwind
4. At finish gear is disassembled and loaded into return group cars.
5. Everybody loads into return group cars, with gear, and drive to the start point
6. Forward group and their gear is unloaded at the start point

You guys should really try out some wider Formula Boards. You can pick up old models realatively cheap and with an 8.0-9.0 sail the downwinder is a lot of fun plus you do not need the car. Just turn around and sail home, The formula boards handle down wind much better and are much much faster and more comfortable at this angle. If you can find a Mikes lab its like sitting on your couch doing 25knots straight down the pipe - then turn around and come home. Plus you never get skunked. I love shortboardsing but I got the downwinder bug and started racing too. The Long distance race is this weekend. SF - up to GG Bridge - down to Berkeley and Back. Takes about an hour and 45 minutes. Shocked

No doubt, that's impressive. And I agree, I enjoy the idea of self-sufficiency. I've sailed circles around a couple of Caribbean islands, literally, on freestyle gear, alone, and yes, it was a blast. Sorry I don't have the GPS plots.

Anyway, we're just trying to put together an enjoyable social event.

Thanks for your valuable input.
