Hi jpf18,
As things turned out, October offered quite a few good days, but November was a total loss for me. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised how a good early December came to the rescue.
Did you have an opportunity to sail C Street on October 5th or December 1st, 7th and 8th? Classic strong clearing winds without the nasty storm runoff that can often occur with passing frontal systems. Did you get a chance to see the big waves on December 4th and 5th?
In any case, I'm happy that your visit to Santa Barbara was a good one. I've been living in SB for over 34 years now, and it's hard to imagine a more ideal spot to live. Just before I retired a few years ago, I toyed with the idea of moving to a less costly place like the Gorge, but I just couldn't realistically follow through with it. I've been spoiled. |

On the contrary! This is CALIFORNIA PEOPLE! THERE IS NO SEASON/OFF SEASON here!
The MOST CHALLENGING/ EXCITING /INTENSE sailing is to be had between October and May in Southern California. While those days may only come 2-3 times/month, they are worth having your rig around for, as they will be the most memorable!!! Somehow, I always remember my winter windsurfing experiences much more vividly!!! In the summer, one tends to go on "auto-pilot" in the forgiving and predictable conditions. By contrast, in the winter, you get all kinds of surprises that challenge you on every level!
Granted, not everybody wants to be challenged that way, and usually it is these people that claim that there is no wind. Fact is, there IS wind! You just have to be willing to go when it's here, and be willing to deal with the winter (in California) conditions! |
