While I have survived the algae and dodged the dog poop, I had a close call last Friday with an irate fisherman set up in front of the main rigging area.

This young Asian guy, ~5'4" 120lbs, had a chip on his shoulder because his lines got cut, I'm guessing by a board fin. When my wife and I would not agree to sail somewhere else he pulled out a switchblade and was waving it around about 5' from us and yelling C'mom C'mon.

I then walked down to the park host and the local Sheriff was there within a few minutes. Although this troublemaker moved along after a warning, it sounds like he came back on Sunday was insisted on casting his lines in the sailing lane in front of the road despite pleas from at least one sailer.

In the event that this guy decides to escalate or cannot control his temper, his mini-pickup license plate number (on Friday) was 8K84502.

You would think he would get more than a warning . Time to pull out your camera or phone cam and document it.

Penal Code Section 417(a) Every person who, except in self-defense, in the presence of any other person, draws or exhibits any deadly weapon whatsoever, other than a firearm, in a rude, angry, or threatening manner, or who in any manner, unlawfully uses a deadly weapon other than a firearm in any fight or quarrel is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment in a county jail for not less than 30 days.

The switch blade is potentially a felony per PC 12020, and is definitely prohibited under PC 653k as a misdemeanor.

It sounds like you found a lazy cop to deal with this a-hole. I would follow up. You got the guy's plate number. Did you get the cops badge number? Find his supervisor and let them know.

The fisherman has probably eaten too many mercury and algae laden fish and warped his brain. He sounds like the kind of guy who won't head a warning and someone is going to get hurt.

Whats the law say about shooting someone in self-defense? If that would have happened to me when my wife was around. I would have blasted that asshole with buckshot.

The law says you'd be subject to a murder charge. Revenge doesn't equal self defense. From the original post, I note the guy was 5 feet away, not advancing, and screaming, "Come on!" By taking up his challenge, you sink to his level.

Now, if he advanced on you, you need not wait for him to take a swing with his knife to put a load of buckshot in his ass or anywhere else you see fit in order to protect yourself, or your wife.

Damn bigdick! I knew there was some good ol' boys up there in the Sacto Bayou, er, Delta! And you guys were ragging on us po'southern folk at Leo for our kiter woes! I think a joint W/S-kiter posse should escort Mr Badattitude Fisherfella to a good old fashioned roll in those blackberry bushes at the park. That should adjust his aloha spirit! Bull

Last Friday, Sept. 14th, I was loading up to leave Sherman and watched as a windsurfer on plane passed about 25 yards off shore heading in at the playpen and pulled a fisherman’s line. The fisherman was about 20 feet up from the beach in the parking lot side. The fisherman’s description is identical to the one posted at the beginning of this string, also the description of the truck (mini-pickup) is teh same.

The fisherman screamed, but the guy on the board didn’t appear to hear. The windsurfer tacked and headed out, passing at about the same distance from the fisherman and the fisherman cast at the windsurfer trying to hit him. This was NOT accidental.

It was clear the fisherman waited for the windsurfer to get within range and then the fisherman cast at the windsurfer. He came very close to hitting the windsurfer, but the windsurfer was not aware of this.

I drove down to the Park Host RV and reported it to the Park Host. The Park Host spoke to the fisherman. As I left, the fisherman stood close to my car and when I passed he smashed the back of my car with his fist and came around to my window angry and threatening. I backed up and returned to the Park Host and we called the Sheriff. The Sheriff was in Walnut Grove at the time, and said he would come talk to the fisherman. I left before the Sheriff arrived, but on my way out the fisherman was again threatening. Again, the description of the fisherman (and his truck) who tried to hit the windsurfer and smashed his fist into my car fits the description of the guy who pulled the knife.

We need to watch out for each other. This guy is dangerous.

I think that we need to make sure and invite Dick to go windsurfing the next time we are out at Sherman. Smile Either that or have one of my kiter buddies take out the fisherman with a 16 m. Seriously though, the guy sounds psychotic, so watch out folks. If you see him, speak to park host Indian Bob and keep your distance. Hopefully he will find another place to be alone with his hallucinations.

When I went sailing this Wednesday the angry asian guy's truck (silver, older) was parked in front of Delta windsurf when I drove by about 4pm. He has a caucasian buddy that has a souped up newer, small white car that was also present a week ago. Both vehicles were there when I drove out about 7pm Wednesday and the Asian guy was watching the road and gave me the evil eye when I drove by.

My wife confirms that last Friday, he approached me while brandishing the knife from the road and stopped at about midlength of the car as I retreated.

Thanks for posting the rest of the story from a week ago. Given that he's still hanging out in the area, I'm concerned that he could end up physically harming someone. I intend to call the Sheriff on my lunch break.

Damn what a psycho! If you see him stay away and call the cops. My first session at rio this year started with a fishing hook in my foot right at the playpen. I'm always finding fishing line with rusty hooks attached. I have nothing against fisherman but it seems to me that some of these guys litter their trash and don't really care for the environment on the levee road.
The best thing you can do in this kind of situation is report it to the authorities. If they receive enough complaints especially complaints about this nut case hopefully they'll increase their presence and bust his ass. I can't believe that the cop let him off with a warning after he pulled a knife on you. He's a time bomb waiting to explode. A guy like that is sure to pull his knife on the wrong and end up badly beaten or dead.

I grew up in Sausalito and was at the local gas station with a buddy of mine one day fueling up when this little want a be gang banger approached my car and asked my friend to step out. He said that my friend was talking smack about him or something. I stepped out of my car and told the little punk to buzz off. He replied telling me to stay off his turf. Laughing hysterically I told him that I grew up here and told him to scram. The little punk pulled out a knife and let me know he was going to stab me. I repeated put away you knife little boy and go home, then he attempted to charge at me with his knife. I picked up a quart of 10-40 from the basket at the station and threw it at him with full force and hit him square in the face knocking him to the ground crying. I then walked over and grabbed his knife put it in my pocket and the little punk ran away. Next stop was the cop shop where I dropped off his knife and reported the incident. In hind site I probably should of just left and gone to the cops but for some reason I reacted the way I did. Generally a person who pulls a knife on you in such an easy manor is a complete pussy and thinks the knife is going to give them an edge or scare you to do what they want. Thats one of the problems with this world today, no talking it out or old fashioned fighting just knifes and guns.
