Forecasts. humm

try this: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick.php?site=VEF&llon=-115.383747&rlon=-113.618747&tlat=36.677084&blat=34.909584&smap=1&mp=0&map.x=115&map.y=205

The north wind works best when a high pressure sets up over the middle of Nevada and a low pressure down south.
So typically a high presure system will move in over the great basin after a front - without a follow up system. Usually that will give you 4 to 5 days of strong north.

Also the NOAA forecast will be low. For instance - they will forecast 14 - 20 with gusts up to 34. Typically at cabinsite point the wind will be 24-28 with gusts to 34.

The other thing you can look for are the fire departments gearing up for another Santa Ana. If you google "santa ana wind" you can find some pretty good descriptions on how it works.

I hope that helps.
