Can anyone in the Boston area give a report on the ice at Lake Quannapowitt?

It's good, I iceboarded there today, along with 2 other people. Looks strong, probably over 7 inches. The rain yesterday helped. I know that 2 weeks ago it was at least 9 inches and maybe significantly more. There still was 5 inches last Sunday after the thaw and it's been accumulating again since then and has refrozen nicely around the thawed extreme edges (had to jump onto the ice a week ago). There will be people sailing there tomorrow and Monday.

Lexflyer,
Thanks for the report. If there's wind I'll be there tomorrow too.

I was skating on it today. There are 3 spots that are perfectly smooth. 2 are by the yacht club. The rest has a bit of crust on top whcih is dangerous for skaters but should be fine for ice boats. Good wind and lots of sun.

I stopped by yesterday and watched with my six year old daughter. She had fun watching everyone. This is taken from the side of the hotel and it's the best pic I could get with my old digital camera.

What happened yesterday? The ice on the Cape is reforming, and I wonder if they are skating on the bogs yet. I am going to swing by the most popular bog in Falmouth today to see. Perhaps I'll drive up to Boston and Lake Quannapowitt tomorrow. In fact I may take a ski/kiting trip once I'm up to snuff. Go to my blog for reports: Ice Kiting

I was there yesterday (Friday) and met Oliver, Ron and Mike. Wind was good and the ice is as described above. Small cracks are opening - adding to the danger for skaters. Should be fine for boats and boards. Light winds today (Saturday), due to be stronger and from the east for tomorrow (Sunday). Ocean Effect snow squalls are likely in the afternoon

Good picture, skatesailor. It shows the ice very well.
Here's another picture from yesterday.
Sunday should be good with a solid NE wind.
