EMAIL SUBJECT: Bellair Causeway-Please protect current levels of parking and public access
Decision-makers in the County, State, and Federal government,
In Reference to the Belleair Causeway Bridge Replacement Project referred to on the website:
http://www.belleaircausewaybridge.com/
I support the efforts of those working to make certain that public access (including parking) is not diminished at Belleair Causeway. Particularly, since so little free public parking is available in the area, it is crucial that the public access at this location be maintained. Under the proposed Bridge Replacement plans, it appears that no parking whatsoever will be allowed on the south side of the causeway. Please amend the plans to require the maintenance of the current level of free public parking at this location -- on both sides of the Causeway.
It appears that almost a half a mile of waterfront that the public has been able to access for over a half century will now be relegated to a 300’ x 18’ parking area on the north side. To make matters worse, it is only accessible when heading west.
The Marine Industry contributes 18 billion dollars a year to the Florida State economy. Yet this proposed plan would act to curtail the very industry whose tax dollars are helping to pay the tab for projects like Belleair Causeway. It's time to reconsider this existing plan and protect public parking and access to this precious resource. It should be preserved so it can be used as it has for decades: by fishermen, windsurfers, kayakers, kids, the elderly, tourists, and the handicapped.
Thank you for your time and consideration on this issue.
