P.S. TOMORROW IS BILLY'S BIRTHDAY!!!!! YAAY!

Two points:

1.) Rowena, how is your leg doing? Any professional opinions obtained yet? Hopefully your injury is just a major charley-horse. I can remember playing pad-less tackle football as a teenager and getting elbows and knees in the upper leg area. It hurt like hell for a while but healed quickly. At least you have that sort of youthful healing ability working for you. Maybe you'll take advantage of the short down-time and get in some inspired painting.

It might be an interesting time to load up on some Wobenzym.

2.) Happy belated B-day to hubby Billy. Exclamation

None of the above applicable in this case.

To be fair, it should also be mentioned that one should not follow too closely behind sailors slightly upwind of you. When I'm behind a sailor or kiter, I'm constantly paying attention and anticipating their move, but prefer to just go out of my way to pinch way upwind or shoot way downwind so that I'm not in the way of their anticipated turn.

Not following too closely if you are downwind of another sailor is applicable if you SEE the upwind sailor. It's the upwind sailor's responsibility to look before turning, and NOT JIBE INTO SAILOR DOWNWIND AND BEHIND YOU!!!! Especially if the downwind sailor is heading out and has the right-of-way. YOU MUST LOOK BEFORE YOU JIBE!!!!

Before you get upset, I don't know how your collission happened, except that he turned and you were right there. There is no arguing with the rule that one should always look before they initiate the turn.

With respect to "not seeing" an upwind sailor who is slightly in front, upwind and within jibing distance.....well, I'm sorry, but I don't "see" how that can be, unless you have visors on........

I notice a few sailors posting right of way stuff (again) and wanted to bring up one little point. The starboard sailor does not have right of way, they are obligated to HOLD COURSE and the other sailor avoid them. So the starboard sailor can't make course changes and then say they had right of way. They need to hold course.
