Victory!
A few newspaper clippings from years ago pretty much say it all.
New SF City and Airport Commission resolutions pretty much end it all:
CITY: Feb. 5, 2008: "RESOLUTION: It is the policy of the City and County of San Francisco that no additional fill should be placed in San Francisco Bay for new or reconfigured runways at San Francisco International Airport."
AIRPORT COMMISSION: Jan. 22, 2008: "RESOLVED, that this Commission acknowledges that to reconfigure runways or build new runways is not an option."

I will never forget the threatening phone calls to my home from XXXXXX XXXXXX. The airport and SF government were VERY aware of us. But they were wrong from the start -- they knew it and we knew it. And, no -- we DID NOT BACK DOWN.
Besides Save The Bay, no one was fighting SFO with passion equal to that of the windsurfers, led by the San Francisco Boardsailing Association (SFBA):
We were windsurfers at heart, but we spoke out as scientists, airline pilots, lawyers, government regulators, frequent flyers, commuters, real estate developers, and citizen group leaders. Thousands of hours spent researching and building coalitions. And then, thousands of hours more to make the fight of our lives.
One plan was to take sand and silt from the Columbia River near Portland and transport it to SFO and dump it. 90 million cubic yards would have required a nonstop line of trucks going back and forth between the Gorge and San Francisco for *30 years*. [Source: Foster City Independent, May 10, 2000.] As Tom Bailey, airport consultant, stated in May of 2000: the impact of that long procession of trucks would be too great on local communities.
(We agreed with Tom.)
Along with Coyote Point and others, the ever-popular Third Avenue launch would most likely have been wiped out as well due to massive silting of the south bay shoreline, and a likely 20 year ban on watersports due to constantly moving construction barges throughout the entire area and the massive dredging up of toxic elements from deep in the Bay mud.
Life-long appreciation for our knights in shining armour:
SFBA's Richard Zimmerman, Peter Thorner, Bill Robberson
Save The Bay's David Lewis
And hundreds of others -- you are all far too numerous to list here. Thank you.
We all worked together to make this thing (not) happen!
George

Nice job.
I hope Willy Browns cronies enjoyed the $78K they spent on meals in that restaurant in SSF, what a scam.
Remember when you vote that Senator Feinstein was for the expansion. Let her know with your vote, or lack of vote.

email from Hunt Hyde, local windsurfer (soul surfer):
...to see those resolutions in writing. It's great to know it's over for good.
email from Julia at Naish International:
Wow, that's big! Great news. It's awesome to hear that if we unite we can stand against such things! Something similar happened here a little while ago (you've probably heard about it) where they tried to pass a bill forbidding wind- and kitesurfers to be within 200-feet of any swimmers in the water (one passage even stated not being allowed within 200-feet of any public beaches!)
email from Miguel Clavero at Big Kite Miami:
AMAZING!
I believe this serves as a lesson for every one, so they can understand how important it is to fight for freedom of the sport.
I'll spread the word.

Great work and congratulations to all involved. I thank the wind god that SF is a thoughtful community that could work together to save windsurfing.
