Thansk for letting me take your formula kit for a spin yesterday at the Access Michel. It was much more difficult to get dialed in on than my slalom rig, and I never did have a locked in reach. The drag from that huge wetted surface and fin was extreme. I couldn't believe how hard the sail was pulling, but it still was tough to get the board up on a proper plane. I watched you afterwards and you looked much more comfortable than I! Good luck in your training.

I find the experience very different than riding IMCO with cambered 7.5's back in the 80's. They were much easier to sail, and seemed to get planing with much less effort. I suppose once the formula gear gets planing it's faster upwind which I suppose is the big difference in racing.

HOpefully we'll catch up again this year on the water sometime.

Glad that you tried it. Tuning is absolutely vital to Formula sailing--a little bit out of tune and it gets hard to manage. Yet I can sail a 10.0 in 20 mph of wind for nearly 2 hours, and get to virtually anywhere on the Bay. Yesterday I sailed in about 12 mph of wind and planed almost all of the time. It adds something, and definitely adds a lot of days. While it is somewhat more difficult to get used to than the IMCO, it is way, way faster. As long as I'm not overpowered, I can stay with or pass slalom boards on nearly all points of sail.
