Listen you can calibrate as much as you want....
The sensor is up on a cliff,
Wind is just different at different hights.
No calibration can take into account all the variables at Leo Carrillo.
Sometimes when kiting I will have a load of power with the kite high up and fell very luittle when I fly the kite low.
There are times when it can be strong at the top of north beach and the sensor will be reading 12mph and the south east part of north beach will get really flakey.
The best way to figure out how windy it is is to see how far downwind the whitecaps start downwind of the kelp. |

Fred's right, ya have to actually look at the conditions rather than rely purely on technology.
But I do appreciate the way Gregor speaks his mind and doesn't hold back. |

Actually I windsurfed for about 20 years and have only kited for two or so.
I've had my share of being tormented by layered wind. |

For the last 20 years the sensor said 5-10 mph less which is accurate!
gusting to 22 with no white caps??????WTF??????????
Historically when the wind reached 12 average gusting to 16 I could comfortably put out.
15mph top end I could kite on a 17 cabrinha.
The other day the sensor said 16 average gusting to 22 and I could not even waterstart.
THE SENSOR IS WAY OVER_READING IS MY POINT. |

So the sensor is over reading, aren't you over reacting? just a bit? What did we all do before all these kind of conveniences were around? F the sensor, learn to read the wind, the water etc. And for pete's sake chill out man. It's the beach, sailing, kiting, nature gets the last laugh... chilling. |

Gas is $4.39 last time I checked is we are paying for a service.........!!??
P.S.: I went to college in Santa Cruz you guys have wind. I live in SO CAL.
Where it is hardly ever windy.....that is why we depend on accurate windreports.
If it is reading 40 and it actually is only 25 I would just rig a different sail. If it tells me I can go Sail and I can only swim.....That pisses me off! |
