With air fares going up and the economy so bad has it been less crowded on Maui? Is it like a ghost town on the N shore? What about the big hotels and N shore rentals and all the windsurfing politics, like vacation rentals, hookipa life gaurds, and the lessons controversy? Do those arogant politicians still want the windsurfers to stay on the mainland now?
Not trying to make controversy but just interested in what it's like over there.

There has been a decline in adults at Kanaha evident for years and real obvious this summer.
It isn't local politics in my view. The decline matches the decline in gear sales in the US. Europe is not reporting either this year and last.

I think most vacationers book about 6 or more months out. ATA and Aloha
were disolved only a few months ago. Next summer may be interesting.
OTOH, I noticed there are some more flights now so maybe other airlines will jump in too and create more competition, hopefully reducing prices.

There have been times when it has still been pretty crowded at Kanaha. I've noticed a higher percentage of Europeans this year over previous years. The next few weeks will start telling the story a little better since by now most US schools should be out. While in Costco yesterday I noticed a marked increase in people who were obviously just off the plane.

If you are looking for some cheap flights to maui check out my site at www.windsurfingtravel.com
I have cheaper fares than Hawaiian Airlines own site.

Aloha,
Jake
