LeeD - I have noticed that break south of Pigeon a number of times. There was an article in UK windsurf magazine about sailing it.

Does it ever break nicely with a NNW wind and swell?

Hi E...
Sorry, locked out yesterday.....
Usually any strong NW that's filled in above PigeonPt. will get to the cut for an easy slog out to the wind/swell line. There's usually NO shorepound at the cut, as there's deep water there, unless it's minus tide or unusually big swells, then just wait for a lull. Since it seems to get few sets, and long lulls, I've gotten out everytime with no punchtrus using a floater. For my 150lbs., usually a 70 liter wave board.
Once out, it'd be better with a bigger board, but who brings bigger going surfsailing?
Mid to high tides are best, since the swells outside seem to get in bigger then and the fin clearance is higher. Don't fall over a submerged rock. The whole thing is smaller than it looks from the dirt parking lot, and it seems to take less than a minute to get past the Lighthouse when planing.
Maybe I'm braindead, but coming to shore is a challenge to find the right cut/beach, so it's good to pay attention to your car's location while scoping out the joint and just after launching. Yes, I came in thru the rocks and pounded my boomgrip, body parts, and fin. That's one reason I don't sail there anymores...kinda a done it, that's good enough a few times.
And yes, always alone, so heebie jeebie vibes when outside.
A few years ago, maybe a decade +, I saw 3 surfsailors out at the beach N of PPt., the one at the outside right rocky reef, N of the surfing left that's famous for shark sightings and surfed by KenBergurson. I think it was MattHaut and that crew, as they really ripped the outside right doing floaters, aerials, and huge flips. A little too hairy for me, I settled for RightReef Davenport, a couple feet overhead on the inside.
