I'm posting this NOR for a terrific junior windsurfing event next month in Massachusetts, USA. As long as you can sail to the windward mark (eventuallly!) you can sail in this event. There will be kids arriving from Florida and as far away as California.

And don't miss the free Racing Clinic on Wednesday, July 16. Britt Veihman, Coach of US Windsurfing's Team USA as well as Nevin Sayre, former World Cup Racing Champion and multiple USA National champion, will give the kids some of the best racing instruction available anywhere in the world.

A limited amount of housing in private homes is available to competitors in the East Coast Windsurfing Championships on a first come, first serve basis. The earlier we know you need housing the better.

12 TRAVEL TO MARTHA’S VINEYARD
This is peak season on the island of Martha’s Vineyard so getting there can be a challenge, but once you’re there everything will be easy. You will not need a car on the Vineyard as we can pick you up from the ferry and everything is within walking distance of Vineyard Haven Yacht Club. The best ferry service is from Woods Hole, MA to Vineyard Haven. See http://www.steamshipauthority.com for ferry schedules and parking information

There are three options for air travel. Fly to Boston Logan airport and take bus from Logan airport to Woods Hole on Peter Pan/Bonanza Bus http://www.peterpanbus.com The bus service is easy and picks up right at the terminal and drops off right at the Woods Hole ferry. There are also flights direct to Martha’s Vineyard. Third option is to fly to Providence, RI but bus/ferry service requires connections.
For groups of kids, we may be able to arrange pick up by boat from Falmouth Town Pier.

A trip to Martha's Vineyard during July can be a bit much for both wallet and patience, so the East Coast Junior Windsurfing Championships arranged to provide FREE LOCAL HOUSING, FOOD AND LOCAL TRANSPORTATION FOR ALL JUNIOR COMPETITORS WHO REGISTER BY July 1, 2008. That's just a few days away, but please spread the word about this great event and incentive. After July 1, the free accommodations may be full.

Ordinarily, junior dinghy (Opti, 420) events often provide accommodations in local homes, but this is not usually expected with junior windsurfing events. The East Coast Junior Windsurfing Championship aims to make this regatta as inviting to all junior windsurfers as possible.

Finally, the East Coast Junior Windsurfing Championships and Junior Olympic Event is excited to announce that a super-cool video will be produced of the Free Racing Clinic and the regatta. This video will show the kids at their best: having fun and showing the world just how cool junior windsurf racing really is. The same production company that created a video of the O'Pen Bic dinghy's "Un-Regatta" will direct, shoot and produce this new video. The first video drew almost 20,000 hits on YouTube alone!

This is the chance for kids to get superior racing instruction, quality racing at all levels, make new friends and show off for the world!!

Please contact all the kids (and their parents) who you think would enjoy this event to encourage their participation in it. We need your help to make this the best junior event possible.

Feel free to contact me via the links to the left, or e-mail Nevin Sayre at nsayre@aol.com. Each of us will do everything we can to get as many kids to this cool event.

Thanks!!

P.S.

A quick follow-up: http://www.ussailing.org/video/

Wait until the end of the video. This grant is just the beginning of the renewal of U.S. Sailing's active support of windsurfing, both competitve and recreational. Much more to come from US Windsurfing, U.S. Sailing and the Windsurfing Task Force!!

Looks like we can expect quite a few Junior windsurfers to travel from all parts of the USA to experience the East Coast Junior Windsurfing Championships and Junior Olympic Festival beginning on Wednesday!

The weather looks great, too. Low to mid 80's, with light to moderate winds. Toward the weekend the afternoons should bring 10-15 or higher SW winds. This setup is perfect for a Junior regatta, as it allows the kids to sail first in displacement mode and then get the reward of planing competition in the later days. It also makes the transition into more breezy conditions much less intimidating for the smaller kids or those with less experience.

Don't forget about the Long Distance race that is part of the Vineyard Cup sailing event running concurrently with the Junior Windsurfing Championship. Adults and kids will race together, along with dinghies and keel boats.

Registration remains open, so contact Nevin Sayre NSayre@aol.com ASAP if you or someone you know wants to race or learn to race!

See you on the water!
