I have been going to Baja but fuel costs and banditos and my kids schedules prevent the longer trips, so I am going back to Isablella. Which is a great place, I just moved on.
I plan to go back this summer and have some questions. First is the boat permits. Says they are up to $45/ boat or board. Are they making you mount them on the board in front of them... or take it with you. Can you put it on gear (boom or mast for instance) instead of board? And then the big question... are they checking closely and has anyone been ticketed. I know in the past that enforcement has been random...
I have sailed there since the in the very early 80s when the lake lights were on and they closed the lake to everyone when the red lights came on (at about 18 knots). Took a lot of lobbying by locals such as Don King to get them to allow us on the lake. But the powers that be initially limited those allowed to big boards (stock windsurfers and bics) because of their erroneous belief these were safer. The next year we got short boards and that brings us to today.
I am going to camp at Auxillary Dam (I am 61 now and moving back to floatier gear). Do I still have to watch for broken glass?
Thanks for any information you can give me.

I am there right now (thanks to Verizon wireless!) since 10 days. They never asked for the sticker yet. Most of windsurfer don't pay the sticker. The most by the book windsurfer buy 2 stickers, one on the main board and one in the car like new, so in case of inquiry, they could argue they did not know on which board to stick it!
Now it is 5$ a night at Aux. dam max stay of 14 days every 30 days. 50$ annual pass. My kids removed as much broken glass and cigaret butches but there is stiill a lot unfortunatly. |
