You know it's summer in New England when 10 - 12 kts sounds exciting.

I've read scoopers' 'getting skunked' stories on his blog. Made me glad I only got skunked locally.

10-12 with a 3-20 foot swell, side off point break with a Kona 11'5, I'd be in heaven. No surf, I'd be on a mountain bike up there in the NE. Y'all have got real hills up there. In FL, we've got tiny limestone lumps and mines to play on.

you know your lame when you reply to a post and say "you know your lame when 10-12kts sounds exciting"

I think we should all make a trip to Marblenuts and run around in speedos and scare the locals. actually they would probably try to get dates with us.

After sailing large sails/boards all summer then going to the gorge, that first gybe with a 4.xx always seems super easy. I throw the sail around hard, and it practically back winds..... Some years I'm lucky enough to get off the red-eye coming back home, and go straight to one of my local breaks for an after gorge wave sesh, very nice. By the end of my trip over there I'm in great shape. Tropical stuff can pop up some great conditions from a close passing of a TS or such. Summer is all about perspective.

summer in New England?

-- still licking my wounds from Thursday's fantiastic conditions. I could barely hang on with a 5.0 ( 2 year old NP Zone).

I left with a smile from ear to ear. No regrets that the board I was on an anceint 1991 glass board.

The reason for saying this is becasue it was like like the day before that I read Matt Pritchard's column in Wind Surfing that almost shamed / offended me into getting new gear.

I not a crack pot that is hung up on the past. I guess given that current economic conditions, the needs of 3 other non sailors in my family, the fact that testing boards around by home is nonexistant, I prbably won't switch until I'm forced.

I would love to latest of everything. I also suspect that if I had the latest of everything (in our sport) I would also have a pile of some junk that may have been the latest, but not the greatest.

In closing it's OK to be happy with what you've got.

Thanks, RC

Ron C.,

I had the same reaction to the column as you, seemed kind of a shameless ploy to get people buying new gear. I wouldn't mind having a glass board circa early 90s on those rare 30knt days.

Thanks for the common thought. Would I be able to loop with a new board? Maybe. Do I care, not really.

I don't think I ever left the beach thinking that a different baord, other than my Haut or F2 Axxis, would have solved my problems.

I wish I could do half the tricks seen in those old 10-15 year old videos.

Yes, Ron, Thursday was good and windy, but it was the first day like that in a number of weeks. Aren't you even curious about how a new board would work for you? Nevertheless, I really don't think that for a skilled and athletic sailor like you the differences would matter much. You would have to change a lot of your habits with a new board as well. I'm adding a photo of Ron and his Haut that I took the last time we were sailing those epic days of the recent past.
