Funny, at first I thought that this was being shown at the Ivar Theatre. I remember from back in my teens (Yes, I can remember back that far, selectively.), that the Ivar Theater was a place where there were actually nude dancers, etc. We used to head down to Hollywood and cruise around for hours before we'd head to downtown Tommy's for a late night chili burger. Anyway, I guess it's not at the Ivar, but rather where Hollywood intersects with Ivar.
I did a web search for the "Ivar Theater" Hollywood, and some interesting stuff came up. It's sort of as I remembered it. It looks like people have a good time there.

I appears that back in 2005, people didn't have to go to iwindsurf in order to get their adult entertainment. Cool

Sorry if that got too tangential. I might be up for that movie. Heck, it's FREE!!!!!!! Whopee!!!!! And there's nothing I like more than free whopee. Oh....it'll cost $20 in gas. Oh, for crying out loud. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Laughing

Don't forget to add $10 for parking (have you been to Hollywood lately?); $15 per drinkipoo ('cause the girlies likes them mixed drinks...I'll have two thank you) and you haven't even eaten yet.

Yes, Hollywood is a slum and not the first place you would think of at the mention of windsurfing. However, it was apparent that last night's screening of The Windsurfing Movie was primarily aimed at the fringe of the Hollywood clan that produces "extreme sports" video. The Cinespace is an interesting little niche bar located in a loft space above the Holly Blvd madness, with small video screens everywhere you look... a vidiot's delight! Dark, expensive[small] drinks, decent pizza and onion rings, freezing cold on a hot day, what more could you want? The Movie is amazing, with all the stars of our sport beautifully filmed lofting huge air, riding insane waves, in exotic locations from Paia to Morroco, five stars!!! Short vignets on Kai Lenny, Jason Polokow, Josh Angulo and his demons, and the paraplegic who sails at Kanaha[!!!] made for some good human interest. If you haven't seen it yet, it's worth buying for the collection, 'cause NP was right, between that leetle margarita, pizza, onion rings, and gas...cha-ching, 30 bones!!! Leo was properly represented with NP [looking truly glamorous dressed to the nines!], Haim, Johnny O, and your humble reporter, Bull, all in attendance. A fine evening had by all!!! Bull

Pretty good. I respect the effort and passion of the filmmakers to make a windsurfing movie at such a time...when windsurfing has lost some ground in the popularity contest to kitesurfing...when sponsorship money hasn't flowed like it did in the 80's and 90's.

However, did the movie break any new ground? Absolutely not. Helicopter footage, perfect peeling waves in some exotic locale, interviews with some top pros, upcoming young talent.... Seen it all before. Would I add it to my library of windsurfing DVD's? Sure.

I did enjoy seeing my heroes, however, Naish and Polakow. Naish for his integrity and commitment to the industry, and Polakow for his amazing talent and enjoyable, colorful personality, and that accent that you just can't get enough of.... Laughing

Thanks for the reviews folks. It sounds like it's very much as the earlier show reviewers stated. I was very curious about the venue. Perhaps I'll get down there for another show at some other time. I decided to give my ribs a test out on the ocean instead. I'd have had problems if I wore a waist harness.
It was gorgeous down at Leo last night. The other B.W. and hung out playing guitar until 10PM down there.
Don't miss Billy W. and Friends at his newest venue this Friday night. He makes it look so easy. The restaurant is at the other end of Westward Beach, next to PCH. MK may know the name. Support our windsurfing bro on his first night at the new location. Bill has worked out a special rate with management on cervezas and margaritas for his windsurfing buddies.
I'd go, but I have an appointment with destiny Rolling Eyes Wink on Friday, another one. Thanks again for the reviews. Cheers.

It was a good call to choose sailing over driving to Hollywood by 8pm. If I didn't have to attend a funeral at 2pm (thereby sacrificing my windsurfing for the day), I think that I would've also chosen Leo over watching a movie in a bar.

However, FYI, going out in Hollywood is not for those that are budget conscious.

Also, while Hollywood Blvd. itself is still a little run down looking, there are many bars and clubs in the area or just off of the blvd. that contain state of the art decor and attract the "young and the hip", and having to pay the doorman a "little extra" is de rigueur.

They announced that "Bra Boyz" will be screened there in August. I think I'd rather watch the DVD release from my own home, where the bartender doesn't cheat. Laughing

I enjoyed the movie but did anybody else wonder why Bjorn Dunkerbeck was not even mentioned (or did I miss it while sipping my $12 glass of wine?)?
