As you may have heard, Ryan Jones, one of our Crissy Field Locals, was in a motorcycle accident on the weekend and passed away. Many of you knew him as the guy who used to show up at Crissy on a bicycle and kite with Royal Kite. He was a good guy and a friend to us all at the beach.
His roommates are organizing a Memorial Service at Crissy Field.
Whether you kite or windsurf in Alameda, 3rd Avenue, Sherman or Crissy, let's come together to remember our fellow waterman.
Keep an eye out for the date and time.

Ryan was cool and I will miss him.

A man suspected of drunken driving unsafely changed lanes on the Bay Bridge when his car swiped the rear of a motorcycle, leading to the death of its rider, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Ryan Willis Jones, 30, of San Francisco was pronounced dead at San Francisco General Hospital at 5:51 a.m. Saturday, less than an hour after the accident. Daniel Francisco Olivera, 31, of Oakland, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and was booked into San Francisco County Jail.
Authorities say that Olivera was driving his 1998 Saab at an "unsafe" speed when he changed lanes and collided with Jones, who was riding a 2004 Harley-Davidson, the CHP said in a statement. Olivera suffered minor injuries.
The accident, which took place just after 5 a.m. a little west of Treasure Island, shut down two eastbound lanes for nearly two hours, according to CHP Officer A. Paulson.

That why those of us in Emergency Medicine call them "donor cycles". Does not matter whose fault it is-- the cyclist always loses.

This is so sad. I only knew him to say hello and wave out on the water, but he was always smiling, and was always really nice to sail around. My sympathies go out to his friends and family. As a fellow motorcyclist and rider on the bay, I will miss him, but it's particularly sad for close friends and family, and he was so young.
I just read on the kite forum that the service will be on Sunday the 27th, with the possibility of spreading his ashes on the bay. Please keep us informed with the time and anything we can do.

My next door neighbor was killed yesterday, 21 July, outside of Elko, Nevada, on a BMW motorcycle. Motorcycles are seductive, beautiful, fast, and cause either morbidity or mortality to everyone who rides them....it's just the facts. If you deny it, you are an idiot. Your morbidity and mortality effects all those you love...period.

And you are also welcome to the following events:

5:00 pm Potluck at Crissy Field Center
- Everyone will head down to Crissy Field at 4, so weŽll probably be there by 4.30 or so. Whatever happens in the water (namely, distributing RyanŽs ashes and showing the mourners the kite surfing that Ryan loved!) should probably happen around then.

My condolences to his family and friends, very, very sad.
Please stop all the motorcycle comments, you don't post the same every time there is a tragedy in a car.
All of us that ride know the risks, always grieve the loss of a fellow rider, but really don't need to read all the crappy "cager" comments thanks, save them for a blog someplace else. Writing them on here to this post is really inappropriate.
weihlac & MCDORO I am sure it would be appreciated and appropriate to remove your comments, a little respect please on the weekend of this gentleman, waterman and fellow riders service.
