For what it's worth I'll tell you my little story from 3rd on Fri. A Kiter was working downwind PAST the 3rd ave windsurf launch, near the cove. Her kite was down and she couln't seem to launch it, then she said her lines were tangled. I kept saying and pointing in and said go in. She finally took my adice and pulled the release before she headed out into the bay headed for the bridge! That would have been a very bad choice. I think we can all keep an eye out and when we see something developing try to save a bad one from happening... |

Some of the kiter crew didn't even get it when I launched and sailed with a pair of tightie whities over my wet suit and harness, with my harness hook sticking out of the fly.
BTW ... it's very effective at keeping all those loose harness straps out of the way for a nice clean appearance and no hook interference. Maybe it'll start a trend. Tom Cruise, eat your heart out.

Sometimes I try to visualize what you look like and now, well,......um.....sheesh. Helmut, (sorry Dieter) face shield, PFD,
flares, handgun, Hydroblade, and now, tightie whities.
Too bad you went through all that trouble and none of the kiters noticed.
Thats sad. _________________ /w\ |

Oh, they noticed. The minute I appeared in them, the laughter and catcalls started. I deliberately waited until we had a big kite crowd and I sailed in them for a couple of hours and wore them around the park for a while..
The harness is a big honkin' DaKine XT seat over an Impact vest. The jockey shorts were a pair of XXLs bought expressly for that purpose.

I have ask, why was the negative statement required at all?
Hammering in such a way at the kiters is so futile and non-productive. Is it supposed to embarrass them out of the sport?
In your dreams.
I'm a dedicated windsurfer, and quite honestly, one who knows better than to attempt such a foolish path. If what's cool is the issue here, that's truly hard to agree on. |

I agree. I sail at Sherman Island quite a bit during the summer months, enjoy the presence of the kiters in the mix, and the news about this fellow waterman, which was the subject of this thread, was very upsetting. It was a horrific accident with catastrophic consequences for this man's life. I am sure that Mike meant no disrespect though and probably just forgot what the thread was all about like we all do sometimes. |

What you regard as "negative", everybody else took as intended; it's called "humor". You might try it sometime. They were still laughing and kidding me about it the next day.

Come on isobars, we're on a bigger scene here. Ridicule of others can't be something easily invested in without a downside.. You might have an inside joke with the locals in your area, but is that really reality out and about?
Kiters are a growing force on the much bigger sphere, and they might not appreciate the "simple humor" you're trying to work from. Why try to get under their skin?
Please remember, in some places they are the clear majority. An important point to consider outside your relatively small "Gorge" world. |
