Hi Windsurfers-

This year there has been a lot of beach talk regarding water safety and right of way.

At the recent windsurfing/kiteboarding town hall meeting, participants discussed adopting a “Defensive Sailing/Kiting” mantra, similar to the “Defensive Driving” techniques we learn in driver’s ed. This means:
• Be aware of other water users and yield appropriately
• Use common sense
• Yield anyway to avoid a collision, even if you technically have right of way
• Stay cool, calm, and collected
• Make sure that your fun doesn’t come at anothers' expense
• Give novices a lot of room
Above all else, watch out for each other. In the Gorge, we are each others’ rescue service. If you see a fellow recreator down, offer assistance. Smile to each other and have fun!

All of which brings us to…

… The Gorge’s first multi-windsport BBQ! This BBQ has two purposes:
1) Build camaraderie between participants of both windsurfing and kiteboarding; and
2) Learn more about water etiquette between the sports.
There will be FREE FOOD, and opportunities to learn about safe ways to windsurf around kiteboarders (and vice-versa).
Date: Saturday August 2nd
Time: 4-7 pm
Location: East side of the Event Site
Bring: yourself, a friend, chips and salsa
