Does anybody launch from Point Richmond?
I am trying to find the shortest way to get to Angel Island.
With a longboard.
Cheers

you can if you dont mind the rip rap rocks
heads ups
the wind can hole out up at the end of the richmound channle
i.e. rock wall
it sits behind angel island

p.s. if you just want to hit that rock, id go from crissy downwind.

actually, there is this spot off Brickyard Cove Dr. (next to the "Red Oak Victory"). It's a little beach that seems pretty free from obstructions, with parking right next to it. It's probably just about the closest, accessible launch to Angel Island in the Ebay, but it might be a little leewardly.

Andy, that pic doesn't show all the chainlink. I think that spot is fenced off. I was there the other day lookin at it and didn't see any access to it...maybe I missed a gap in the fence.

BTW it was blowing 21 at PI the day I was there (in the photo) and there wasn't a breath in that cove...pretty much like it looks there in the pic.

J

same fog set-up too.

Just went over there (most productive thing I've done today)...very accessible; however, you'd have to short tack to get out of there. Picture from the parking lot, from the beach towards the parking lot, and the beach at low tide

From EastBay with longboard, assuming course style, easy 20 minutes from Lordship's launch, if you don't fall.....
From TI, about 5 minutes....
From Pt.Isabelle, depending on actual wind direction, less than 20 minutes....
From Larkspur when it's windy, easy 8 minutes....Montesori might be shorter, but I haven't gone around the corner from there.
From Ft.Baker, about 7 minute downwinder....
I'd just hate to break my mast, boom, harness hook, mast base, or fin from out theres.....

Sausalito to Angel Island may also be an option. I've launched from Sausalito last 2 weekends in order to enjoy family friendly beach there.
I was on a formula board with a 9.0 and 11.0 sail.
I am also thinking of sailing to Angel island just to see the scenery and also checked the currents/winds at raccoon strait. I am planning to make a stop at Ayala cove.
Sausalito has lots of weed in certain shallow parts of the
Richardson bay though. I had to stop and clear my fin.

Are you launching from Schoomacher's Cove at Sausalito?
We almost opened a windsurf shop there a while ago, but $$$$ and some other problems ended dat idea.
Ayala landing could be very very light, requiring a paddle even with Formula gear...no biggee on Formula. Easier and more practical landing on WestGarrison, which faces Sausalito and gets light onshores on normal PM's.
Most of the Formula guys get to TI from Berkeley in about 17 minutes, then add 4 to land in the SW beach at Angel.

I am launching from that cove.
Does the West Garrison have sandy beach, or
are there rocks that requires me to swim?
The charts and satelite pictures shows ruins but not much else.
As for the windsurf shop, maybe you can still collaborate with the kayak rental place over there somehow.
