I searched for quite some time on this topic before going, and couldn't find much information. I will report that I had a great day windsurfing on Hebgen Lake, just west of Yellowstone National Park. I did not see another person windsurfing or hauling gear, but in my opinion carrying it 1000 miles was worth it. Obviously that wasn't the reason for the trip, but it was a great diversion for an afternoon. According to some locals, the wind is pretty consistent there throughout the summer, but you do need larger gear (sail size 6 meters +). The water temperature was also comfortable. I had a thin shorty on, but probably didn't need it.

That's great you were able to experience sailing in Wyoming. I'm originally from Wyoming. I grew up windsurfing near Casper(Central)Wyoming and the winds there are pretty consistently 4.7 to 4.2 winds. But I had to move so I could sail more than 3 months out of the year. There are maybe 4 windsurfers in the whole state that I know of. |
