Wind switches off + current into the locks, and you're there. The park employees who dragged me outta there say it's common.

Happened to notice you sailing down there earlier so we wanted to know if your still alive after all the deadly hazards of cascade locks.....?
We actually went and checked it out today after sailing and the green grass and swells looked inviting! Thanks for the heads up Jim, see you out there soon |

Sailed from the Stevenson boat ramp today. Lots of north was in the wind forcing most of us to sail on the Oregon side south of the red channel marker. That probably made it better for Cascade Locks.
Talked to some Indians that said the gill nets all go out tomorrow until Thursday or Friday. Of course the nets will be as far east as they choose to net. |

It was as north as it gets today (@10:45). I was headed straight for Home Valley when I took off. Ha.
Hey WMP, it kicked back in. |

We learned today it's easier to rig down at water level at Cascade Locks. The wind accelerates up the hill and it's tough to rig at the edge of the parking lot. |

I think we saw you as we left today going over BOTG... saw someone who looked to be sailing from Cascade Locks, but this was at about 4pm, maybe a bit later.
I think Isobars was just making the point that if you drift past the beach, your point of exit will be, shall we say, interesting? We use Cascade Locks as our "easy out" when sailing from Bob's... so if something goes wrong and you have to drift, just like Isobars said, go there. I've done it a couple of times (broken boom was one).
I noticed taking the scenic route home on the Washington side that there is what appears to be a large boat ramp past the BOTG but before the windsurf hungry turbines. Not that I'd want to test it out, but I would think you could get to the Washington side and pull out there if you really needed to.
By the way, on a decent westerly you have flat water to jibe on both sides at Cascade Locks... wind is gusty as hell, but great place to learn/practice your carving jibe. |
