In keeping with the bovine excrement being hurled freely in the presidential election farce, I am contributing a few of my own gems of illogic. These appear to be as widely disseminated as the pronouncements of the candidates, and taking on the profundity of gospel:
This year's designs beat last year's designs.
The more you pay for equipment, the better it performs.
Second hand stuff performs worse than new stuff.
Corollary: Avoid swap meets.
Double-luff sails are "old technology" (and will be whipped by newer designs).
Narrow boards will have their clock cleaned by the newer wide designs under all conditions.
The lighter the board, the better it will perform even in high wind, and chop.
Corollary: Avoid older "Clark Foam" boards.
If you go down to Baja, you are sure to be kidnapped, robbed, ripped off by cops, shot by narcotraficantes (mix-and-match).
Maui always has better wind/waves than anywhere else.

It appears Nealpar assiduously reads her local papers. I have a place in El Socorrito (near San Quintin), along with some 60 other gringo homeowners. In all the 25 years I (and my family) have been driving back and forth (about every 1-2 months) we have never encountered a bandido -- perhaps they were all hidden behind a cactus, along with Pancho Gonzalez. Nor have my neighbors. Indeed, Cindy and Debra regularly commute to/from la frontera alone, and on separate days.
Are there bandidos? Unquestionably. Could those horrible things happen to you? It is possible. The thing to really worry about, however, is ending up as a cross on the side of the road. Far more surfers and other extreme sportsmen/women take their last wipeout trying to pass on a blind bend, playing chicken with an 18-wheeler, or finding out their tire coeff. of friction on a mountain curve. But most of all -- driving tired, anxious to get there or home.
My amigos and I may not have encountered a bandido, but almost every one of us knows a somebody who is remembered by one of those crosses.
Mexican federales rarely apply the speed laws. But the Laws of Physics are alive and well in Baja, and Mama Nature will not settle for a $50 bill.
If Baja scares you -- forget the bandidos. Your worst nemesis stares at you in the mirror every morning.
