I am just moving from coast of Maine to Charlottesville VA. The Potomac River is fairly wide and Fredricksburg VA appears to be the closest vicinity to Cville for access to the Potomac. Does anyone sail near Fredricksburg and, if so, where is there access? If you have any info please email davidstackhouse@myfairpoint.net. thanks.

I moved to Richmond from Buffalo, NY a few years ago. The "Rivah's" and Bay offer weeks on end of winds in the 5-15 range. 15-25+ is always frontal.

Your best bet will be to try and head down to the OBX as often as you can.

You will also find that water accsess is a real challange. I haven't been there but check out Colonial Beach area.

As a matter of fact I'm getting ready to purchase a Starboard Serenity to sail the light winds on the river east of Richmond . Great launch on Gwynns Island near Mathews,VA a place called the Narrows.

Best of luck

Come on down and sail with us in the Tidewater area. Here is the info for the local club http://www.sailwet.com/ join the email list and get the scoop on when and where we are sailing. Here is the link to my blog as well http://outdrsmn.blogspot.com/ It's basically a sailing diary to document my sessions but information can be gleaned on the local sailing conditions and the launches I frequent.
