This is awesome! 1 simple question and a TSUNAMI of responses which leads to 4 pages of CRAP. My answer to original question: when at Crissy , just assume the worst, and yield the ROW, take the high road, and have fun! no worries , no mess.

Oh come on Boggs, you mean that you didn't enjoy the snarling spillovers from the political threads? |

I did tsokat, I did, i admit it. BUT I knew what I was getting into when I entered the black hole. This was a simple little Crissy question and it erupted into a rant in record time. |

For the record I was inside Anita Rock, midway between Rock and Shore. I did not "Pull a ROW' over the vessel nor did I have any intention of cutting it off to see if it stops or not, duh. We are talking about a few hundred yards of waterway; a windsurf at slogging speeds and a tourist boat, not the supertankers under the Bridge.
Thank you for those who provided technical detailed answers, I think this is good to know for all. For the flaming trolls with a big attitude and no technical knowledge, what I can say? Just know that in between posting this thread and now; I windsurfed, snowboarded, sold a board, pitched my services, spent time with my family. Get a life and maybe things may improve for you too.. |

So when a WSer or kiter is pinching up from behind and beneath me at some recreational venue on a higher point than I can achieve, I'm supposed to ... what? ... jump in the water so he can do his thing? Stall, abandon my plane, let him by, and try to pump back onto a plane? Run back to shore and borrow a race board so I can point higher to let him by?
Sorry, other sailor, but you have options I don't and you have a better view of our proximity (both of which should burden you, I would think; I never have understood this guideline). You can just bear off a few degrees, get out in front of me, then continue upwind; or you can jump in the water and wait; or you can stall and wait your turn.
This also illustrates something I'm still not sure yancek understands: The IYRU ROW rules apply by mutual consent to competitors racing in events sanctioned by the IYRU; they do not legally obligate recreating windsurfers/kiters, but one really simple federal LAW does, as I stated four pages ago and will repeat in caps in case it helps: If You Interfere In Any Way, Anywhere, Anyhow, With The Progress Of Any Commercial Watercraft, You Are Guilty. (Note that there's no mention in that paraphrased statute of Anita Rock or any other landmark you "heard" exempts you from federal law.)
You May Also Be Dead.
How's this for attitude, yancek: You're likely to live to enjoy that family much longer and save a few thousand dollars in fines for federal raps if you grow up, wise up, knock the chip off your shoulder, and consider the advice of a few sailors with combined scores of decades and many hundreds of thousands of miles under sail before you blithely sashay out into one of the more hazardous WSing venues on the planet. If you don't want their advice and their specific answers, don't ask for them. If you want their answers written in some undefined certain way, dream on.
Sheesh! Kids these days!

Again, Isobars, you are wrong. A know it all who doesn't know it all is even more irritating. |

The above post from isobars is terribly off the top, but what else is new with this troll type character?
Truly, a perfect example of total arrogance.
Of course, it should be remembered that this guy lives literally hundreds and hundreds of miles from Crissy Field, so his advice falls totally short of the mark for those actually sailing there.
isobars loves to trip on his nonsense, and relentlessly push his stupid ego game. Without a doubt, his pointed goals are clear to many here.
Many local sailors have offered very practical advice about sailing at Crissy, so I think that yancek has a very realistic guide to work with. I know that they square well with my experiences at Crissy over the years. |
