|
|
Our esteemed governor has taken Washington state from a budget excess to a $9B deficit in a couple of years -- mostly before the meltdown -- and Maryhill State Park could suffer the consequences.
From the CGWA (the above statement is NOT from the CGWA):
Washington State Parks is facing major budget cuts. As a result, Maryhill
State Park is on a list of 32 Washington State Parks at risk of being
“mothballed” in the event of $23 million in budget cuts. Mothballed means
that basic operations would stop, the gate would close, bathrooms would
close. More information is available at
http://www.parks.wa.gov/current.asp .
The CGWA Board of Directors wants to hear from you- do you use Maryhill?
How? What would its potential closure mean to you & your family? Please go to http://tinyurl.com/dxefks to help us gather more information via a quick & easy 1-page survey.
Please feel free to share your comments with Washington State Parks at
mailto:pao@parks.wa.gov"pao@parks.wa.gov . All public comment
will be shared with the Commission.
Thank you for helping us.

Who Me?
It's too far away from Walking Man.
It killed me to see the wind graphs for Roosevelt on all the shitty days we had at Maryhill or Rufus.
One epic day it was just too Fing cold for us at the Wall and Pete was having a ball @ the upstream end.
See you at the swap meet huh? |

Not you .... Pacspeed and his snotty, misplaced comment about park support.
I dunno about the first swap meet. Last year's first one was about "yeah big" \---/.

How is it snotty and misplaced? YOU brought up the political connection with your snipe at Gregoire. YOU have stood on your soapbox ad nauseum excoriating the political left for their spendthrift ways. YOU have consistently dragged your paleo-conservative politics into this windsurfing forum. And now, YOU are bemoaning the demise of a public park, simply because it affects YOU.
Who do you suppose is turning the screws on Gregoire to cut costs on anything but cops and prisons? Who do you suppose crys bloody murder against any tax increases? Who do you suppose views most parks, open space, wilderness, and conservation in general as an offense against family values and almighty Jeezus himself?
Right wingers. YOU people.
So spare us, please. |

Snotty, because it's personal.
Misplaced, because it's untrue, especially considering the full-page litany I recently posted touching on my 35-year history of working with many local, state, and federal government and private agencies to evaluate, promote (and discourage where appropriate), support (with my time, my blisters, my newspaper articles, and a great deal of my own cash), and even create recreational venues in several states, from Gorge launches to parks to wilderness areas.
Maryhill and Doug’s and Arlington don’t affect me directly as I don’t use them. That didn’t stop me from donating serious cash towards the preservation of Doug’s, because I felt it was the right thing to do. Ditto Arlington (its sand beach was solely my idea, which I personally presented to and got initial approval from the four federal and two local agencies involved).
“Bush is a war-mongering, oil-loving, baby-bombing, retarded Hitler” is perfectly OK, but stating a relevant fact about Governor Gregoire -- whom I publicly supported as recently as two years ago -- is a “snipe”? Get real.
Heaven forbid I should deign to post conservative political facts and opinions in political threads started by liberals. Oh, the horror of it all.
If you are not pressuring Gregoire to stop spending money she doesn’t have, shame on you. From budget surplus to $9,000,000,000 in debt in a couple of years is OK with you?
Who decries tax increases during a recession, you ask? Virtually every non-Marxist, apolitical economist in the free world. 350 and counting have put it in writing and every trial of that concept on this planet in the last century has failed miserably.
My turn: Who donates by far the most cash and aid? Globally, the U.S.; nationally, conservatives. Look it up.
Next time you want to take a personal swipe at someone, a little research might keep the egg off your face.

Dude your logic is so full of holes I don't even know where to start.
First of all, I have to commend you for never letting an opportunity pass to take yourself way too seriously. I think most would agree my original statement was a fairly lighthearted jab, but you still saw fit to get your panties in a bunch.
Secondly,

Whats it gonna be? Sounds to me like she's cutting spending on non-essential services (i.e a rural windsurfing park), yet you're still here complaining about it. Tax more or spend less, there's no other way.
Thirdly, I don't pressure Gregoire on anything, because I don't live in Washington.
Fourth, I don't advocate for public parks because I'm a libertarian. If the public wants those amenities, then they'll pay an appropriate user fee to obtain them. As far as my needs go, I don't need bathrooms and barbeques to go sailing. The wriver is a public right of way, and the wind is free.
Fifth, if you want to defend Bush, don't do it in a thread talking about taking a surplus and turning it into a deficit. That guy is in the dictionary next to "Incompetent Spendthrift Drunken Sailor Dumbass".
The egg, sir, is on you. Again. As usual. |
