Is there a sensor or site to check the water temperature around LBI or Sandy Hook? I'm hoping the shallow water there is warmer then the 44F ocean.

I don't know of any bay side temperature sensors.
Have you checked out the NODC site? It does have a good number of temp sensors around the NJ/PA area (though none in the bay).

I've been out several times this year since the middle of March at Trixies and Lavallette. I can tell you that you will almost certainly still need a full suit (5/4 mm) or dry suit as well as thick booties (I'm toasty in my 7mm's). Hoods and gloves are becoming optional depending on air temp & cloud cover. High temps for the past couple weeks have mostly still been in the 40s to low 50s, so things are still pretty cool. Once we start hitting the 60's on a regular basis, the bay will heat up.

Here is a SST satelite image. It is pretty accurate however if it's cloudy or foggy it doesnt work.

I sailed at Sandy Hook a couple of weeks ago with a 5/3 wetsuit.
The temperature of the water is ok, but my hands were freezing. So I had to use my neoperene mittens and booties.
I would also recommend to cover your head.
I will sail at LBI on Thursday. I will report back.

Here's another NOAA site for water temps. Not sure where the Sandy Hook buoy is but you can find that on NOAA Buoy interactive maps on the web too ....
