Hi all, I have a quick question about Bullhead Flat, I've heard that you don't want to go out there on an Ebb 'cuz you'll get sucked out into the bay. Do you guys have any good 'beta' about sailing this spot? |

Ebb is ok, the current isn't that strong. However you don't want to be there when the tide is 2 feet or less. Flood is best because you have rising water. And the last thing you want is to be out there when the tide goes out and you have to mud-walk back in.
Here's an earlier post on the topic:

best to wait until you have 2' of water and flooding at bullhead. if the timing isn't right get upwind as much as you can. the wind is better up there anyway.
the ebb can get deceptively strong particularly at the point right near the launch. if the wind dies on your way in you can easily get swept out into san pablo bay. next stop, hercules. there is very little boat traffic so you're pretty much on your own. it's not a place to sail alone. |
