Its still cold here in the gorge area, so.....
Northwave is headed down to the Bay area for an extended weekend of sailing. May 8th, 9th, and 10th.

Come join in on the fun at Crissy Field and hear about what's new with the American made custom sails.

...Or feel free to just test ride one of the many new 2009's, that will be available for Demo.

-We look forward to seeing you there!

hey, glad to see you on here
because i was somewhat stymied
after seeing a "made in China" label
on what had been touted as "...these
are the only production sails currently
being made here in the United States"

what's with that??

Good question. I'd like to hear an answer.

I do think they make at least some of their sails in The Gorge.

Its the material panels that are made in China. they are shaped and put together in the Gorge.

I can vouch for that. I have about 7 NW sails, and 3 of them were made last summer while I was in the Gorge in about 5 days. Kind of hard to ship from China....

They had some of their sails made in Sri Lanka for a few years centered around 2001 or so via a closely monitored arrangement by Blake (NW founder). Before that and since about 2002 or 3 every NW has been hand-crafted in Hood River.

As far I have been informed. If a product has a "made in China" tag on it, it is made in China. Nothing to do with the Monofilm, x-play or panel. Many performance Sails contain 75 % products made in Germany, USA and Japan like Monofilm, X-ply and the mast Sleeve Material.
So a Sail "made in China" containing 75% products from USA, Japan and Europe is still made in China. The added value in China is the cut and sawing. With a 3D mold the cut and sawing can be almost perfect in quality and tolerance. Overall that sail would be a 25% China Labor and 75% World products Sail for fun in live on a Windsurfboard.

By law, anything manufactured in a foreign country must have the county of origin conspiciously marked regardless of where the materials used in construction are from.

Assembly is considered as "substatial transformation". thereby making a sail sewn in China with U.S. thread and Japanese monofilm "Made in China".

It is very unlikely that anyone would put a Made in China tag on a sail sewn in USA.
