It may be a (tourist?) trap, but it definitely is a trip. Long, gruelling and flat. From Fla. there's nothing but the occasional farmer's field to break the monotony. I can't see how anyone that isn't some kind of wind rider could enjoy the final destination, either. On top of that you have the return trip to which to look forward.

Hatteras kicks ass!!! Just back from two weeks. We have been going the end of April for the last 13 years and this one was the best one since our second trip 11 years ago. Weather was warm and windy with a few cool and really windy days. That's Hatteras, always an adventure. The drive is well worth it. We stay at Frisco Woods Campground. I like Frisco for Downwinders on kite, surfing, wavesailing and sailing right from our campsite on the sound. Make sure you hit the Orange Blossum for an Apple Ugly!!!

Another excellent OBX wavesailing day AGAIN today!! Again a score at the Washout, 5 mi south of Oregon Inlet on Pea Island. Solid chest + set waves, soooo many turns my arms were burning, and lots of late lip hit in the crumbly critical sections! Pure awesome wavesailing!! Key is to catch it between 1 and 3 hrs after low tide. I was there right on the mark and scored! Only downside was my GoPro lack of battery power. I knew my batteries died while I was out, but I expected at least about 30 min of footage and some of the wave riding. However, no joy...less than two minutes of my run off the beach, though it caught a sweet high spinning FWD off one of the set waves as I was heading out through the surf zone!
All in all Josh, yea there are waves out here, and excellent side-off wavesailing conditions at the Washout!! Especially in this strong SSW wind we have been experiencing EVERY day!
My latest post has some wavesailing there from yesterday, but definitely bummed today's action was not captured on the GoPro. Check out yesterday's though for a fine appetiser, but the main course was today between 2:00pm and about 4:00pm when the incoming tide fired it up!
Lets see what happens tomorrow?! Ideal time to be at the Washout, between 3:00pm and 5:00pm as low tide hits around 2:30pm.
