when you are in a windy environment be sure you hydrate a ton. Many of these symptoms are identical to dehydration.

Second, remember there are background values of naturally occurring elements, pollens etc and more that can cause symptoms,

Do not drink the water, even in seemingly pure high mountain streams. That can create all sorts of stomach illness.

Remember also as summer comes, long warm spells may p[recede big wind. warm air. You need to be ahead on hydration going into the water.

A lot of water keeps yor sinuses doing what nature intended

Good hydration and drysuits are a challenging balancing act even for younger people. ;-(

I was in the river Saturday feeling pretty strong and healthy. I missed a few times and splashed down hard. By Monday I had a raging ear/nose/throat infection. I usually pooh pooh all this river nose talk and people being all sensitive to it. I've sailed the Gorge for many years and never got it.

Without question, some nasty sh*t got into my E-N-T and infected me badly. Its Wednesday now and I cannot decide whether to go to the doctor or wait it out. Either way, I know 100% that the river, after all my denial, really did make me painfully ill.

I sail with ear plugs so when I miss backloops, which is frequently, I don't blow my ear drum. Saturday I forgot them and whamo, bad infection. Word to the wise, try some Mac's plugs, its helped me stay relatively infection free for years. Other than that, give up on the Healing the River position for your shorterm health, the river is fuct and won't be clean in our lifetime. Best bet, your grandkids benefit from your social activisim.

Which, is worth it, but for now, you need to prevent that water from getting into your E-N-T tracts......
